Pyinnyar Pankhin

Hello Myanaung!

Hello Myanaung. Hi everyone. My name is Alan and I am a volunteer teacher here at Pyinnyar Pankhin school, Myanaung, Myanmar. The object of these posts is to record some of my experiences that took place during my time here and to continue to have an active interest in the schools’ development. My time here (Feb 27 – May 2, 2018) has been a wonderful experience (noun: an event or occurrence which leaves an impression on someone). When I first contacted the Ven. Neminda I had never heard of Myanaung and knew Myanmar only from maps, and Aung San Suu Kyi the Nobel Peace Prize laureate (1991), politician, diplomat, and author. Subsequent correspondence convinced me that this was a country and culture that I would like to discover more about, but the real incentive was the school, the story behind its conception and the people who made it possible. As a “free to all” school this appealed to my belief in the opportunity to create educational equality and improve the “life chances” of as many children as possible. I had a wonderful experience, due to many parents, committee members, staff and volunteers and of course the students who engaged in the learning process. The next stage is likely to be more challenging, the fundraising and building of a school fit for purpose. With this in mind, it is my intention to return in December and start phase 2….the making of the walking/cycling track and relaxation areas within the present area used for the classrooms at present. With the continued support from all, I hope this planned addition can take shape. As everyone knows, our dear friend the Ven. Neminda is presently in the USA, so I will be relying on a lot of goodwill from everyone in the hope that this can be completed. Look forward to seeing you all at the end of the year.
