Pyinnyar Pankhin Secular School

Shelter for Rural School in Myanmar

You could help so many children and even if you only donate a few dollars, every dollar counts. ( Teacher Ann)

We are a secular school for underprivileged children in the small rural town of Myanaung, Myanmar. At present, the school is without shelter and are seeking funding to help us in our mission to a building for the children. We have plans for construction and are seeking to raise $356,000 in funding.

Pyinnyar Pankhin English Training Center (PPETC) commenced its first classes in 2015 at the Nan Oo Temple, Myanaung. Initiated by the Ven. Neminda, the purpose of the center is to offer the highest possible standard of education to underprivileged children. Prior to the school’s opening, the only educational options available were government schools that teach only in a traditional manner involving rote memorization, copying text, and listening to a teacher’s lecture from outdated text.

Pyinnyar Pankhin aims to challenge these children and offers English language classes, also experiential science classes, courses for critical thinking, environmental awareness, cooperative team building, and practical life skills for engaging with the wider world. All of the classes are totally free of charge.

When the school started, PPETC did not have its own building (or land) and classes were held at the No.2 Naychi High School (Government School) in Myanaung. However, classes could only be offered in summer when the high school was not in session. After operating there for two summers (2016 and 2017) and due to an enthusiastic attendance, in 2018, Pyinnyar Pankhin bought a 4.8 acre plot in Myanaung and at present holds its classes outdoors there; though in rainy season classes must be suspended.

Pyinnyar Pankhin has made a dramatic impact on the lives and attitudes of the children. Due to this impact, a large percentage of the townspeople are eager to erect a building so that they can have classes all year round. However, the financial burden is too heavy for this farming community to bear. It is for this reason that we are reaching out to seek help in raising funds to build a permanent school building. We would be  extremely grateful if you could find a way to support this worthwhile venture. Please follow the link below to obtain the information required in order to donate. Thank you for your interest in our project.
